In 1993, James B. DeWitt was a small business owner and a recent electrical
and computer engineering graduate of The University of South Carolina.
Legends Company Group, as it was known then, was a car electronics
and security company that provided audio and security systems to car
dealerships, as well as, the general public. After multiple requests
for home security systems from existing clients, he decided to learn
the home security business.
By 1994, the company was transformed into Legends Security &
Sound, Inc. as a residential security systems company. Since then,
Legends has grown to become Columbia’s largest independently
owned and operated low-voltage systems integrator specializing in
designing, installing, and servicing commercial and residential:
- Intrusion and Fire Detection Systems
- Automation, Lighting Control, and Energy Management
- Structured Wiring Systems
- Surround Sound and Home Theater
- Audio and Video Distribution
- Intercom
- Surveillance Camera Systems
- Central Vacuum
- Gate and Door Access Control
Legends Security & Sound, Inc. is licensed by the state of
South Carolina and our systems integrators have been trained and/or
certified in the complete integration of home and business systems.
In January 2003, Legends Security & Sound, Inc. became Columbia’s
only and South Carolina’s first ConnectHome affiliate. ConnectHome
is the nation’s premier national installing dealer network
for the professional sales and installation of residential automation,
entertainment and networking systems.
At Legends, we understand that everyone’s needs are different
and we take pride in the fact that we can design systems covering
the entire spectrum – From basic security to full blown automation
systems controlling everything in the house at the touch of a button.
For example, by simply arming the security system, you can turn
the lights off, set back the temperature of the heating and air
conditioning systems, control the hot water heaters, close the garage
doors and even close the drapes.
Besides home and business owners, our client base includes SCANA
Corporation, Richland School District One, and numerous custom homebuilders.
You don’t keep clients such as these unless you go above and
beyond their expectations for quality service and dependability.
That’s why we’ve grown from one man in a van to eight
technicians and six service vehicles. We’re big enough to
serve, yet small enough to listen.
